Wedding Venues in Providence RI

When setting a wedding date many brides aren’t thinking of a crisp cool day in October. Let’s face it, most brides are thinking of a summer wedding, statistically in June, in which to tie the knot. But there are some great reasons to plan a fall wedding here in the Ocean State. Here are some ideas to get you thinking of a Fall wedding.

Many venues offer reduced site fees in the “off season” – usually October 1 – April 30th, but this does vary. So the mansion you have your heart set on may be more affordable in November vs. July. In addition to lower site fees, many mansions and historic homes that offer tours will be already decorated for fall or Christmas, lowering your decoration costs. Some sites to look into may be: Linden House, in Bristol; The Henry Lippitt House, in Providence; Mount Hope Farm, Bristol; Rosecliff and Marble House, in Newport, RI.

Be prepared for limited daylight. You may already be lamenting that it’s getting dark on your drive home from work, so plan for turning your reception into a sparkling, lighted wonderland. Unless you opt for a morning wedding with a brunch reception (another money-saving tactic, by the way); you will more than likely be planning for an afternoon ceremony with a traditional evening cocktail/reception. Picture a ballroom with twinkling Christmas lights, lots of candles, and up-lighting along the walls and dance floor.

For your menu, go for rich and decadent; Butternut Squash Bisque, Pumpkin Ravioli, Cranberry-stuffed Chicken are some great seasonal dishes, but definitely work with your caterer to create your own special menu. Who wouldn’t love a specialty coffee or hot chocolate bar to keep the chill away? Or warm mulled wine as your signature drink?

A few key points to consider: Fall weddings are great because the humidity- and tourists- of the summer are gone, but you may want to consider renting outdoor heaters to warm a patio for cocktails or ceremony. Speaking of, have a backup plan in case of an outdoor ceremony, for obvious reasons.

You may find that other services, such as limo services, are discounted due less demand for their product in the off-season. You also want to be comfortable, so don’t forget to pick up a matching shawl, or bolero jacket, especially if you are having a strapless gown. Even better, take a cue from the Dutchess of Cambridge, who wore a now-famous lace sleeved gown to her April nuptials.
