Country Wedding Ideas Outdoor

If you are lucky enough to live in a rural area or you want to head out of the city for your big day, a country wedding can be lovely. It is not any harder planning a country wedding compared to one in the city, although you may not have as wide a choice when it comes to event hire companies, make up artists, hairdressers or photographers. You could also have to travel a little further to find that perfect dress.

Choosing the right location is the first step as this tends to set the theme for your whole wedding. Depending on the season you may choose to have your wedding outside, which is particularly lovely in the country. Hiring a marquee for the reception is the best idea and if you are planning on getting married on a farm, whether a friend’s or family’s there should be plenty of space to set one up. You will find reception centres or large enough restaurants around to cater for an indoor wedding, or you may want to have it at someone’s home.

Having a country wedding doesn’t necessarily mean you just add a cowboy hat and boots. You can if you wish but really a simple country wedding calls for a classic simple dress, with nice clean lines and a full skirt. Rather than wearing a tiara, fresh flowers in your hair can complete a sweet country look with the idea that ‘less is more’. Don’t go for a long train, especially if you are having an outdoor wedding, as it will get dragged through the dirt constantly, and you don’t want to spend your whole day worrying about your dress.

Your bouquet should match any flowers in your hair but not be too over the top. White or pale pink roses are soft for a country wedding and you might want to include the types of flowers that you would find in a cottage garden, like lavender, sweet pea or hydrangea. Decorate the marquee or reception area with similar flowers, smaller posies being more reflective of a country theme.

Hair and make up

Hair worn loose is more keeping with a country style wedding, with soft curls or simple straight hair. A veil that flows down the back rather than hanging over the face is a much more relaxed style. Make up should be natural, so rather than going for a smoky eye look or bold coloured lipstick, chose neutral eye shadows and soft coloured lips. If you are having an outdoor country wedding it is likely to be held during the day, and more natural make up is better for a daytime look.

If the wedding is to be held on a farm then you will be lucky to have the whole countryside around you as decoration. The inside of a marquee will look beautiful decorated with flowers to match the bride’s bouquet, with smaller posies being a lot more casual. Flowers arranged in teacups or jugs are pretty and have a country feel, and soft ribbons could tie in your colour theme. Simple decorations are better.
